20 Years Strong!

Stride is celebrating 20 years! Check out our 20th anniversary video below. Thank you for supporting Stride as we empower strong girls through sports and mentoring!

Female empowerment means a lot to Stride alumna Bethany, who says that “encouraging people at a young age to get involved [in sports], especially women, is really important.” Bethany is thankful for the opportunity she was given to learn to ski and ski race through Stride’s Snow Stars program, and as a senior in college, she continues to ski to this day and even started the college ski club. She is especially grateful for the support Stride offered, even after she “graduated” from Stride’s programs, thanking Founder Leslie Wright. “Leslie would go hand over foot to make sure you had everything you needed, even after you moved on from Stride!”

Welcome Abigail Jewett!

Stride is excited to welcome our newest Board Member!

Abigail Jewett is a student-athlete at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. She is a sophomore and on the Dartmouth Women’s Alpine Ski Team pursuing a major in government. This past summer, Jewett enjoyed mentoring for the Little Bellas mountain bike program in the Hanover, New Hampshire, area. She has also completed the DRIVE student-athlete leadership program through Dartmouth College. Jewett is passionate about giving back to the athletic community; she recognizes the need for female leadership in male dominated sports like ski racing, and hopes to provide such leadership to aspiring young athletes.

After graduating high school from Green Mountain Valley School, Jewett went directly to ski for the U.S. Ski Team for two years, while also beginning her undergraduate degree at Dartmouth. Jewett attended Dartmouth and skied for the National Team simultaneously for two years before deciding to attend college full-time to focus on her studies.

Jewett accomplished one of her biggest athletic goals when she started her first FIS World Cup Ski Race at the Killington Mountain World Cup in November 2018. After battling through a year-and-a-half-long injury, she competed in the 2019-20 EISA Alpine season for the Dartmouth Ski Team—where she earned a spot on the NCAA Skiing Championship Team. She competed in the 2020 National Collegiate Skiing Championships held in Montana in 2020.

Welcome to Stride, Abi!

Skiing at Rikert!

Nordic2.jpg

The Snow Stars Nordic girls had a great time skiing at Rikert Nordic Center in Ripton, Vermont, on Wednesday, Jan. 27! Despite the pandemic, Stride is working hard to provide fun, safe programming this winter. Getting active outdoors is more important than ever! Thank you to Frost Mountain Nordic Ski Club where the Snow Stars girls ski in the Bobcats program. Thank you Skida for the colorful hats and neck warmers! We love that Skida is a women-owned business based in Vermont!

Cancellation Notice: Stride's Annual Celebration

Dear Friends of Stride,

I regret to inform you that Stride's Annual Celebration April 2 is cancelled.

With Middlebury and St. Michael's colleges shut down, the students we honor and who help run the event are no longer here. That fact, combined with health officials' guidance regarding groups gathering, it made sense to cancel.

We will have an online auction set up for the awesome items donated by our generous sponsors and friends. Stay tuned.

Be well.

Learning from a legendary Mentor & Coach

Missy Foote, retired legendary women’s lacrosse and field hockey coach from Middlebury College, visited the Middlebury Union Middle School a few weeks back to share some wisdom with the 8th grade girls basketball team, part of our Sisters in Sport program. The girls were highly appreciative! These are some things they learned.

Mollee at Songadeewin

Every summer Stride offers scholarships to summer camps Songadeewin on Lake Dunmore in Salisbury, Vermont and St. Michael's College Summer Basketball Camp in Colchester, Vermont. Above camper Mollee enjoys canoeing at Songadeewin.

Here is what she had to say about the experience:

"I like the variety of choices you can do for activities. I feel safe when I'm there. I'm allowed to be myself. I really enjoy riflery and sailing, and I love being with people my age who can relate to me."

Stride's Annual Celebration!

Thank you to everyone who came down to Notte  on April 5 to celebrate Stride's mentors and mentees. We had our best event ever with nearly 100 in attendance. We raised $2,000 for our mission to empower girls through sports and mentoring!

Special thank you to those who donated to our raffle and silent auction. Many of you make unique works of art especially for this event and we are honored to have these items available only at our party!
